A 59-Year-Old Man Bitten by His Own Dog, Taken to Bacău County Emergency Hospital

On Tuesday evening, a 59-year-old man from the village of Somușca, Cleja commune, was rushed to Bacău County Emergency Hospital after being attacked and severely injured by his own dog. The incident occurred at his home around 8:00 PM, and the man was transported by an ambulance crew to the Adult Emergency Department (UPU).

According to emergency room doctors, the patient suffered multiple wounds to his arms, legs, and chest, resulting from extensive bites. „The patient was stabilized and later transferred to the Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery Department due to the severity of his injuries,” hospital sources reported. The medical team acted swiftly, preparing the man for a complex tissue reconstruction surgery.

Alarming Rise in Animal Bite Cases

This is not an isolated case. In just a few days, four other people in Bacău County were brought to the hospital with injuries caused by animal bites, raising concerns among doctors. According to specialists, most of these incidents involve pets, but there is also a risk of bites from wild animals, such as foxes, which are considered major rabies carriers in rural areas.

Doctors at the Bacău Emergency Hospital stress the importance of vaccinating pets against rabies, given the spread of the virus. „Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system and brain, and once symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal,” they warned. Additionally, post-exposure prophylaxis through vaccination of individuals bitten by suspected rabid animals is essential to prevent infection.

Increased Risks with the Start of the Fall Agricultural Season

Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery doctors expect an increase in accidents as the fall agricultural season begins. „We anticipate seeing more cases of injuries caused by farm machinery, as well as burns, especially from home distillation processes for making fruit brandy,” they noted.

In light of the rising incidents, medical staff advise the public to take appropriate safety measures to prevent such accidents, whether handling pets, operating farm equipment, or using open flames in households.
