Man Injured in Bear Attack in Eastern Romania

Bacău County, Romania – A man was injured in a bear attack on August 4, 2026, in a forested area near the village of Scutaru and was taken to hospital after emergency services intervened, local authorities said.

According to the „Ștefan cel Mare” Bacău County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, a gendarmerie patrol was dispatched following a 112 emergency call reporting the incident in the Dobrele forest area.

Gendarmes, the village mayor and a medical team responded to the scene. The injured man was carried down from the forest by people accompanying him to the Buciaș area, where he was transferred to an ambulance and transported to the Emergency Department of the Onești Municipal Hospital for specialized medical treatment.

Authorities said the bear retreated back into the forest after the attack and no longer posed an immediate threat to the public.

Following the operation, law enforcement officers searched the surrounding area and conducted an awareness campaign for local residents, providing guidance on preventive measures and the appropriate response when encountering wild animals.
