Two women were found dead in a house in the eastern Romanian town of Comănești on Monday morning, while the main suspect, the husband of one of the victims, was hospitalized after allegedly attempting to take his own life, Bacău County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Bacău) said.
Police said they were alerted at around 8:00 a.m. local time by a 62-year-old woman, who reported that a 66-year-old man had allegedly stabbed his wife and his sister-in-law inside the home where the two women lived.
A joint investigative team, including homicide detectives and forensic specialists, was dispatched to the scene under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bacău Tribunal.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly fatally stabbed his 67-year-old wife and her 63-year-old sister before attempting suicide.
The two women were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was taken into medical custody under police guard and transported to hospital for treatment.
Police said preliminary database checks showed that the individuals involved had no recorded history of domestic violence incidents.
The investigation is continuing under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bacău Tribunal in a criminal case concerning aggravated murder.
Romanian authorities have not disclosed a possible motive, and the suspect has not been formally charged. The investigation remains ongoing.
