Construction of the southern Bacău road interchange has entered its final phase, with contractors preparing to connect the Bacău bypass section of the A7 motorway to newly built stretches of the Moldova Motorway, local authorities said on Monday.
According to officials, road infrastructure near the existing bypass and the interchange ramps is ready for the final connection works. Road markings have already been completed and safety barriers installed, while crews are currently carrying out embankment works, concreting hydrocarbon separators and installing the lighting system.
To allow the final tie-in works, the A7 Bacău Bypass will be fully closed to traffic between Aug. 17 and Aug. 31, starting at 7:00 a.m. local time on Monday.
The closure was approved at the request of the contractor under a joint authorization issued by Romania’s National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR) and the Romanian Police Inspectorate (IGPR).
The traffic restrictions cover the entire bypass, between its junction with National Road DN2 at the southern entrance to Bacău from Nicolae Bălcescu commune (km 279+650) and the DN2 intersection in the Bogdan Vodă area (km 296+400).
During the closure, all traffic will be diverted through Bacău via DN2.
Authorities urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance and use the recommended alternative routes to avoid congestion and reduce travel times.
Drivers travelling from Bucharest towards Suceava have been advised to use either the DN2–DJ252D–DJ252B–DJ252–DN2F–Calea Bârladului–Calea Romanului–DN2 route or the DN2–DN2T–DN11–Arcadie Șeptilici Street–DN2G–DJ119B–DN15–DN2U–DN2 route.
Traffic heading towards Vaslui will be diverted via DN2–DJ252D–DJ252B–DJ252–DN2F, while motorists travelling to Piatra Neamț are advised to follow the DN2–DN2T–DN11–Arcadie Șeptilici Street–DN2G–DJ119B–DN15 route.
Background
The Bacău Bypass is one of the key components of Romania’s A7 Moldova Motorway, the country’s largest motorway project currently under construction. The A7 is designed to improve north-south connectivity in eastern Romania, linking Ploiești with the northern regions near the Ukrainian border and significantly reducing transit traffic through major cities.
Construction is currently focused on completing the final section of the Focșani–Bacău motorway between Răcăciuni and Bacău, as well as all three lots of the Bacău–Pașcani section. Once completed, the new motorway is expected to improve freight transport, shorten travel times and strengthen connections between Moldova and the rest of Romania.
