Bacău City Hall Proposes New School Bus Route Linking Fiald Area to Dumitru Mangeron High School

Bacău City Hall has proposed expanding the municipality’s dedicated student transport network by introducing a new bus route connecting the Fiald neighborhood with Dumitru Mangeron High School, according to a draft decision submitted by the local administration.

Under the proposal, the new Route 5 – Fiald would be operated by a bus with a minimum capacity of 85 passengers. The service would run on school days, Monday through Friday, departing at 7:10 a.m.

The route would serve the following stops: Fiald, Aprodu Purice Street, Chain Bridge, Arena Mall, Banca Transilvania, Cathedral Park, City Hall, Tic Tac, South Market, Orizont, Narcisa, Henri Coandă High School and Dumitru Mangeron High School.

Access to the service would be restricted exclusively to students, who would be required to validate their electronic travel cards upon boarding. The route could be introduced only after receiving approval from the Traffic Police Service of the Bacău County Police Inspectorate.

According to the explanatory memorandum accompanying the draft resolution, the new line is intended to address the lack of a direct public transport connection between densely populated residential areas with large numbers of students and some of the city’s main educational institutions.

Municipal officials argue that the dedicated route would improve road safety by reducing the risk of traffic accidents involving students, help ensure punctual arrival at school, and provide an affordable transport option for families with lower incomes.

The proposal would amend Local Council Decision No. 13/2026 governing regular public transport services dedicated to students and is expected to be debated and voted on by the Bacău Local Council in the coming period.
