Romanian Member of the European Parliament Dragoș Benea visited the site of the collapsed bridge in Ciobănuș, on DN12A, at the end of the week to discuss measures aimed at restoring and improving traffic flow in the area.
Benea was accompanied by MPs Vasile Budacă and Lucian Bogdănel, as well as Bacău County Public Administrator Valentin Palea.
According to Benea, one of the priorities is to speed up the installation of a temporary metal bridge by the Iași Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP Iași), in line with measures established by the County Committee for Emergency Situations.
Temporary technological road planned for heavy traffic
Authorities have also identified an additional solution for heavy traffic in the area: the construction of a temporary technological road.
The road will be used by heavy vehicles and will also provide access for the removal of the collapsed bridge structure and for the works required to build a new bridge on DN12A.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 28, and is expected to take approximately one week.
The project will involve the Asău local administration, Bacău County Council and the Bacău National Roads Section. The Bacău County Council is expected to provide financial support to the Asău administration for the works.
Temporary metal bridge expected around October 20
According to Benea, DRDP Iași Director Ovidiu Mugurel Laicu has committed to having the temporary metal bridge installed around October 20.
“Responsibility and prompt involvement must characterize everyone’s activity,” Benea said, stressing the importance of restoring as quickly as possible the road connection affected by the bridge collapse.
DN12A is an important road link between western Bacău County and Harghita County. Traffic is currently affected by the collapse of the bridge over the Trotuș River and by a temporary detour which, according to local authorities, cannot efficiently accommodate the entire volume of traffic in the area.
The temporary solutions are intended both to improve traffic conditions and to provide access for the works required to construct a new bridge on DN12A.
