Romanian Member of the European Parliament Claudiu-Richard Târziu has been appointed vice president of the European Christian Political Party (ECPP), alongside Dutch MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen, the ECPP announced on September 24.
In his new role, Târziu will politically represent the European party together with ECPP President Valeriu Ghilețchi. The party said the vice-presidential position is separate from membership of its Board of Directors and does not involve administrative governance.
Târziu said he was taking on the new responsibility with the aim of promoting Christian-rooted values in the public policies developed by the ECPP and strengthening the party ahead of the 2029 European Parliament elections.
“I receive this responsibility with the desire to achieve two important objectives: defending and promoting our values, rooted in Christian faith, in the public policies that we will articulate as a party, as well as developing the ECPP so that, from 2029, it has its own political group in the European Parliament,” Târziu said in a statement published by his party, the Conservative Action (ACT).
He also identified the protection of life from the moment of conception as one of his priorities.
“Protecting life from the moment of conception is a moral obligation that I have always considered a priority,” Târziu said.
For ACT, the party led by Târziu, the appointment represents a new responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to strengthening a Christian and conservative political voice at European level.
The ECPP describes itself as the European political party explicitly promoting Christian values. Its president, Valeriu Ghilețchi, said the appointments of Ruissen and Târziu strengthen the party’s political representation at European level.
Târziu has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2024 and is affiliated with the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group.
