Local police officers in Bacău helped an 84-year-old woman find her way home after she was found disoriented on a city bus, without identification documents or a mobile phone.

The woman was spotted in the evening on bus route 18 by local police officers and public transport inspectors. Between the Republicii and Aeroportului stops, they noticed that she appeared confused and was unable to provide her name, exact age or address.

She told the officers that she was more than 80 years old, lived in Bacău and had left home to buy bread. She was carrying neither identification documents nor a mobile phone.

The officers first established that she did not require immediate medical attention. They then stayed with her and tried to reconstruct her journey through repeated questions and the few details she was able to remember.

Using the available clues, the officers gradually identified the area where the woman lived.

She was eventually accompanied to Carpați Street, where police officers located her home and safely handed her over to her daughter. Her identity was subsequently established and she was confirmed to be 84 years old.

The Bacău Local Police said the incident highlighted the importance of cooperation between local police officers and employees of the city’s public transport operator, particularly in identifying and assisting vulnerable passengers.

The case also illustrates the risks faced by elderly people who become disoriented in public places. Without identification documents or a telephone, locating their relatives or home can become considerably more difficult.

Police said that in such situations, patience, calm and attention from people around a vulnerable person can play a crucial role in preventing a potentially serious situation.
