International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1, is being marked in Bacău with weeks of meetings, cultural events, physical activities and opportunities for community involvement.
Through its support for initiatives dedicated to older residents, Bacău City Hall provides senior citizens with numerous opportunities to take part in the life of the city. Cultural events and recreational activities bring people together, encourage them to remain active and offer them the opportunity to discover something new.
Beneficiaries of the “Clubul Pensionarilor” Day Centre, operated by the Bacău Municipal Social Assistance Directorate (DAS Bacău), have enjoyed a diverse programme. They watched the film Memories from the Golden Age (Amintiri din Epoca de Aur) in Cathedral Park, attended a book launch at Hub Orizont and enjoyed a concert performed by 3 Sud Est together with the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic Orchestra. The National Folklore Festival “Ion Drăgoi” also brought Romanian music and traditions to the programme.
Bacău’s senior citizens have also demonstrated how much they care about their city. As part of the national “Let’s Do It, Romania!” campaign, 50 beneficiaries took part in a clean-up action at the Leisure Island, setting an example of community involvement.
The centre’s activities continue on a daily basis, beyond festive events: dancing, gymnastics, creative workshops, information sessions, group activities and excursions. The centre’s team develops these activities based on the interests and needs of its beneficiaries, creating a space where everyone can feel heard, encouraged and welcome. Physical activity, creativity and time spent together help senior citizens remain active and build friendships.
The programme will continue on October 1 with a celebration of International Day of Older Persons, in a warm atmosphere filled with music, dancing and good cheer. For Bacău’s senior citizens, every gathering is an opportunity to be together, to make their voices heard and to remain an active part of city life.
More Bacău Senior Citizens to Receive Home Care Support Starting in October 2026
Older residents of Bacău will be able to benefit from home care and social support through a project implemented by the Bacău Municipal Social Assistance Directorate, in partnership with the Bacău Branch of the Romanian Red Cross.
In October 2026, DAS Bacău is launching home care services as part of the project “Home Care and Social Support — Integrated Services for Older Persons in the Municipality of Bacău”, project code SMIS 348560.
The financing agreement was signed on May 7, 2026, while the project officially began on June 1, 2026. The implementation period is 40 months, running until September 30, 2029.
Home care activities have already begun within the partnership: the Bacău Red Cross has been providing services since August 2026 to 11 beneficiaries.
With the launch of DAS Bacău’s services, the project is expanding its capacity to respond to the needs of older people who require assistance in order to continue living independently in their own homes.
“The support provided to each person is determined according to their assessed needs and included in an individualized assistance and care plan. This may include help with personal care, meal preparation, shopping, household activities and accompaniment, as well as social counselling and socialization activities. Through these services, the project aims to reduce isolation and support the independence of older people.
The project is aimed at vulnerable older persons who have their domicile or residence in the municipality of Bacău. Access to services is established following an assessment of their social situation, income and care needs. The services provided to beneficiaries through the project are free of charge.
By the end of the implementation period, 107 older people will have benefited from support, while DAS Bacău is also working towards establishing and licensing a specialized public home care service,” said Daniela Pozînărea, Director of DAS Bacău.
The project also includes activities designed to encourage older people to participate actively in community life.
The project is financed through the 2021–2027 Inclusion and Social Dignity Programme. Its total eligible value is RON 4,974,547.03.
The total non-reimbursable funding amounts to RON 4,907,761.90, of which RON 4,228,364.98 comes from the European Social Fund Plus (85%), while RON 679,396.92 comes from the state budget (13.66%).
DAS Bacău’s own contribution, from the local budget, is RON 66,785.13 (1.34%).
