Bacau Local Police have fined a shop on Alexandru cel Bun Street 10,000 lei and ordered its activity suspended for 30 days after it sold vaping products to a 14-year-old girl.

The inspection took place on Wednesday morning, when local police officers found that vaping products had been sold to a minor at the store, according to Bacau Local Police.

Before the check, police had received a written complaint from a local woman alleging that the shop was selling such products to minors. The complaint was confirmed by the inspection.

Romanian law prohibits the sale of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and vaping products to anyone under 18. Retailers are required to verify buyers’ age and, where there is any doubt, must ask to see an identity document before completing a sale.

Bacau Local Police reminded businesses that responsibility for checking customers’ age lies with the retailer and said inspections of shops in the city will continue.

Authorities warned that vaping products cannot be sold to minors under any circumstances, and that retailers who fail to comply face substantial fines and possible suspension of their activity.
