A building within the Bacău County Emergency Hospital (SJU Bacău) is set to undergo rehabilitation and energy-efficiency improvements before being converted into a new home for the hospital’s Dermatology and Venereology Department.
The investment is being carried out by Bacău County through a European-funded project under the North-East Regional Programme 2021–2027.
The project aims to modernise the medical facilities while significantly reducing the building’s energy consumption. Works will involve the renovation of the former Ophthalmology Department building and the reconfiguration of its interior spaces to accommodate the new medical unit.
According to information released by the county administration, the investment will provide facilities better suited to the needs of both patients and medical staff.
Energy consumption and emissions to fall significantly
One of the project’s main objectives is to improve the building’s energy performance. Once the works are completed, total primary energy consumption is expected to decrease by 75.8%, while annual specific primary energy consumption from non-renewable sources is projected to fall by 82.67%.
At the same time, annual specific primary energy consumption from renewable sources is expected to increase by 497.53%.
The project also targets an 86.8% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and an 87.76% decrease in specific carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
These improvements are expected to make the building more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, while reducing its maintenance and operating costs.
Improved facilities for patients and medical staff
The rehabilitation works are intended to create a modern and safe medical environment, with interior spaces adapted to the needs of the Dermatology and Venereology Department.
In addition to improving conditions for patients and healthcare professionals, the energy-efficiency measures are expected to contribute to lower energy consumption and reduced expenditure on maintaining the building.
The investment falls under Priority PRNE_P3, “A Sustainable, More Environmentally Friendly Region,” within the North-East Regional Programme 2021–2027, under a funding call dedicated to improving the energy efficiency of public buildings.
Once the project is completed, the former Ophthalmology Department building will be converted into the Dermatology and Venereology Department of Bacău County Emergency Hospital, with renovated facilities and spaces adapted to its medical activities.
