A 42-year-old motorcyclist seriously injured in a road accident has undergone an eight-hour series of orthopedic surgeries at Bacau County Emergency Hospital after being transferred from a neighboring hospital with multiple complex fractures.
The patient, from the town of Buhuși, was initially admitted to Neamț County Emergency Hospital following a head-on collision between his motorcycle and a passenger car while traveling toward Piatra Neamț.
According to Bacau County Emergency Hospital, the man sustained multiple severe limb injuries, including comminuted fractures of both forearms and a complex fracture of his left lower leg accompanied by significant bone loss.
Due to the complexity of the injuries and the need for specialized orthopedic care, the patient was transferred to Bacau, where surgeons from the hospital’s Orthopedics and Traumatology Department carried out the operation.
The surgical treatment was performed in two stages to stabilize the patient and safely address the extensive injuries. The combined duration of the procedures was approximately eight hours.
Hospital officials said the patient is now in stable condition and continues to receive treatment in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department. Doctors expect a lengthy recovery and said the complex fracture of the left leg will require close monitoring, with further surgical procedures remaining a possibility.
Hospital representatives said the case demonstrates the facility’s capacity to manage highly complex orthopedic trauma, including patients transferred from neighboring counties, reinforcing its role as a regional referral center.
Hospital manager Ion-Marius Savin praised the Orthopedics and Traumatology team, as well as intensive care staff, for their professionalism in handling the case and wished the patient a speedy recovery.
