Romanian para-powerlifter Mariana Dragna won the first gold medal in Bacau county’s history at the Paralympic Games after claiming victory in the women’s 61-kg individual event.
Dragna added a second medal by taking bronze in the Open competition, capping a landmark performance for the county’s para-sport programme.
The result marks a milestone for sport in Bacau and strengthens Dragna’s preparations ahead of the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
The athlete was coached by Ioana Melecciu and Zodian Daniel, whose training programme helped deliver the historic achievement.
With the two medals, Dragna became the first athlete from Bacau county to win a Paralympic gold medal in para-powerlifting.
