AGRI Committee Votes on EU 2026 Budget: Simpler Rules and Fair Trade for Farmers

MEP Claudiu Richard Târziu announced that he voted in favor of the Agriculture Committee’s opinion on the European Union budget for 2026, emphasizing the need for real and effective support for farmers and rural communities.

Târziu highlighted that the vote reflects the Committee’s position on financial allocations within the Common Agricultural Policy and how European resources will assist farmers in the coming year. The opinion confirms an increase of the crisis reserve to €450 million but stresses that activation rules must be simplified to allow faster access to funds.

The document also underlines the importance of maintaining competitiveness in vulnerable sectors such as fruits and vegetables, viticulture, beekeeping, and olive oil production. The Romanian MEP stressed the need for strict application of the reciprocity principle in trade, ensuring that European farmers are not disadvantaged by imports that do not meet the same quality and safety standards.

“ I voted in favor because this budget must meet the real needs of farmers, reduce bureaucracy, and guarantee fair markets and equitable competition,” Târziu concluded.
